Kid's primary response to advertising is emotional. And that's what enduring themes tap into. They are basic truths about what motivates kids and what they identify with. Often kids feel dispossessed and overwhelmed in the adult world. In advertising, you can turn that on its head, and kids can be in control what they want more than anything is their own money, freedom to make their own choices, their own room, and so on. Hundreds of kids must have imagined themselves having their own money, freedom, being a film star, or best of all, having their own place to do what they want. This would, in part, account for the success of the best selling toy in history, with two sold every second of the day somewhere in the world _ Barbie. Like many of the best toys, Barbie _ a prop for Kid's imagination _ in this case, the child is projecting herself.
