To avoid the various foolish opinions to which mankind is prone no super human genius is required. A few simple rules will keep you not from all error, but from silly error. If the matter is one that can be settled by observation make the observa tion yourself. Aristotle could have avoided the mistake of think ing that women have fewer teeth than men by the simple de vice of asking Mrs. Aristalle of keep her wouth open when he counted. He did not do so because he thought he know. Think ing that you know when impact you dont is a fatal mistake, to which we are all prove. I belive my self that Hedgehogs eat black beetlles, because I have been told that they do; but If I were writing a book a, t h habits of hedge hogs, I should not commit my self until I had seen one enjoying this unappetizing diet. Aristotle, how ever was less cautious. Ancient and me dieval authors know all about unicorns and salamandors, not one of them thought it necesssary to avoid dogmatic state ments about them because he had never seen one of them.

Like an adventurous seafarer am I,
Who hath some long and dangerous voyage been,
And called to tell of his discovery.
How for he sailed, what countries he had seen,
Proceeding from the port whence he put forth,
Shows by his compass how his course he steered
When cast, when west when South, and when north,
As how the pole it cury place was reared
What capes he doubled, of what continent,
The gulfs and straits that strangely he had passed.
Where most becalmed, where with foul weather spent,
And on what rocks in peril to be cast.
Thus in my love, time calls are to relate
My tedious travels and oft varying fate.
